A wee biography

Born and raised in Dundee, Scotland, Maurice Mechan started illustrating as a professional in 1983 when he took a position with British comic publishing giant D C Thomson & Co, home to The Beano, The Dandy and many other famous titles.

As a staff-artist Maurice's duties varied - he drew everything from spot cartoons to full page illustrations, but he was also kept busy ghosting other artists' styles and patching damaged artwork.

After five years in the fun-factory Maurice felt he needed to stretch his artistic wings and made the inevitable next move - he bought a one-way ticket to London, England and life as a freelancer.

In London commissions came in from clients such as British Airways, Hodder & Stoughton, and Mad Magazine where Maurice became a regular, contributing seventeen covers and many inside features.

In 1993 Maurice relocated to Stockholm, Sweden where he continues to work on a freelance basis.

Clients include Metro, Dagens Nyheter, Expressen, Affärs Världen, The Swedish Post Office, Viasat, Swedfund, the Bonnier Group, the Swedish Church
